This is Halloween, this is Halloween! Halloween... Halloween... (To be sung in Jack Skellington's voice.)
Unfortunately, I didn't really get any good pictures of the kids on their costumes this year. :( They had the week off from school, to move into the new school, and it was really nice to not have such a crazy, busy Halloween day!
We went to the Ward Trunk-or-Treat first. I used to think these were silly, but I have been won over. It is so fun to see everyone's costumes and all the adults' costumes, too.
This was a costume of one of Alex's friends. It inflates, and Alex was a-ma-zed. He has already found an inflatable skeleton costume that he wants for next year.
Cool costume.
Creepy costume, but pretty creative, too.
They had a potato bar afterwards. There was a huge line and we waited while our kids ate candy, then decided to leave more food for others and just go home and get a pizza!
We didn't really notice until Irelyn had opened and tested about 5 suckers.
On the way home we stopped at a few houses of some of our neighbors. The Campbells were working at the Temple that night, so we didn't go to their house like we usually do.
We watched a movie, I can't remember what one, and had jack-o-lantern pizzas from Papa Murphy's. I like that tradition!
Justy and Tara's wedding! Everyone else has lots better pictures of it, but I will put my token few on here. It was a sweet wedding and everything looked so pretty. I'm so happy for them!!
Probably her fourth cupcake. We just gave up.
We had Book Club at my house for when we read "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" The kids were sad that they didn't get any of the food, so the next day I set it all back up for them, except I put out less of everything. When they came home from school, we had fun having fancy after school snacks.
Decorating for Christmas. The in-between is always crazzzy!
Our fun Thanksgiving Eve tradition. We pull up the couch and watch a Christmas movie- this year it was the Muppets Christmas Movie. Beforehand we also made peppermint cookies (thank you pre-made cookie dough) and dipped them in white chocolate.
I've come so far. This year I just totally enjoyed it and didn't worry at all about any messes in the house. I have learned that 1. It will get cleaned, eventually and 2. It doesn't have to be clean to have fun, as long as I don't make a big deal out of it. Good lessons to learn!
Thanksgiving!! It was really quiet this year, with just us and Danny's brother, Eric. It was kind of sad to not have lots of people, but it was also super relaxing. Danny used a butter injectable in the turkey, put bacon on top and cooked it in a bag on a higher temp for a shorter time. It was the absolutely most moist and delicious turkey I have ever had!! It was soo good, the whole turkey was within a couple of days.
Alex wanted a whole drumstick, so we obliged. He tried to save the bone to make into a dinosaur, or the start of a dinosaur skeleton, but it was kind of icky so we snuck it away later.
Christmas dresses after church. It is hard to get all three of them to look at the camera AND smile!
Emme is making a funny face in this one!
I took the four older kids to see the Nutcracker. This year they were very familiar with the play, which helped a lot. They loooved it and were really good.
It did go late- it didn't even start until 7:30- so they were all tired by the end. Alaina fell asleep in her chair and would look up and smile when I told her that the Sugarplum Fairy was dancing, and then lay back down and go back to sleep.
It was a really fun way to enjoy the season, and maybe in 5 or so years I will feel up to bringing Irelyn, too! :)
