Owie

Irelyn's first word was "kitty." Her second word was "owie" and she has stuck with it ever since. According to her, she is in a near constant state of pain. Here are some of the things she has said owie about recently-
 *Being put in her highchair
*Being put in her car seat
*Having her hair brushed ("Owie, owie, owie!")
*While having BabyMagic put on her in the bath
*When she put her finger in her ketchup
*When her doll stroller got stuck

It is very hard to know how to respond to these cries. With sympathy? Disdain? Just simply ignore? I think that owie is her catch-all word for everything she is ever upset about- and she is upset a lot.
So every day I wonder, "What will Irelyn say "owie" about today?"

Costumes and Kid's Art

Here are some random pictures of things the kids have been doing this week- into the middle of winter.

Alex made himself this costume. I think he was a spanish guy from the movie El Dorado. The eyebrows were really funny looking in real life.
Here he is as MegaMind. He put a St. Patricks Day basket under the hood to make the head like that.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be, but it was kind of funny. Alex is always making so many funny things.
Trying to get pictures of the girls after church today. It took a lot of pictures to get ones that looked this good! (Emme's face here is so classic "Emme." She has her own ideas about things.)

Irelyn was getting mad now... that meant we were done.  The other day at church Irelyn was screaming for something that Tristan had and I asked him to please just give it to her. He said, "But I had it first!" To which I responded, "Tristan, we all know that Irelyn is the boss. Just give it to her." He laughed and gave it to her. No wonder she is such a monster- but a cute one!!
Alaina's artwork from school I think they are learning about verbs associated with animals. These say- Fly (a bird), Slither (snake), Hop(rabbit) and Scamper (squirrel)
 "I can count."
Alex Artwork- it makes me laugh that in this picture he put an apostrophe, but still wrote "I am." Those darn contractions!
I think this is from the Piglet movie

Tristan Work-
This says, "Wat's in Santas bag?
Santa openned his bag and out came a person. A person well nifty we have to have another elf's. and we have another person. and he woud be good at making toys. And he woud be a good elf."
That was really hard to type without fixing the grammatical and spelling errors....
He gave this to me on Valentine's Day-
"Roses are red
Violets are blue
You are my darlin'
i Love you"
I'm not sure what they were supposed to be writing about here, but it says, "My dad got angry becos I did the code. (To unlock the tv.) I clim the tree by holding onto the branches. I cling to my dad. I wigl my fingers."
This one was for the book "Good Morning, Gorillas."Hmmm. slightly scary....
Alex made this costume for himself out of felt when he wanted to be the Lorax. I helped him put thread on it so he could tie it to his head.

 Ahhh... wind kites. Endless fun.

Emme's Birthday- 1 & 2!!

(This is just a funny picture of Alex getting a massage at a fundraiser we went to. )
Emme turned 2- last year. And, since i never blogged about it, I thought I would put a few pictures on here before I put pictures of this year.
Yeah! Here she is last year- we had doughnuts instead of cake. Yumm!
She was a verry good talker at 2 and I remember that she would make up her own knock-knock jokes. They went like this- Knock-Knock.
Who's there?
(Here she would name a family member.)
Family-member who?
Happy now me! (And she would hug herself.)
Or sometimes it would be food and she would say, "Eat me." She made them up all on her own, which I thought was quite impressive.

Pictures I took of her the next day.

And here we are to this year! My, how time flies!
Dora cake, by request. Since I couldn't find any Dora cake toppers, I just put toys on there.
She got- Play-doh ice cream set, a Strawberry Shortcake dress-up dress...
 play food...
(This is the present that Alex made for himself. He labeled it - To Alex, From Emme. It was a picture of a mask he wants in a Ziploc bag.)
... Cutie dress from Grandma and Grandpa Doc, coloring book and outfit from Grandma and Grandpa Campbell, Merida doll from Josh, Princess accessories, and a new pillowcase that she wasn't interested in until she went to bed, and then it was veryyy important.

Here are some pics I took of her today wearing her new dress from Grandma. Oh, and a sneak peek at her new bedroom, which really should have been her present!
I might as well do one before and after from her room. Here is her chair that I recovered all by myself! (With lots of prayer and Danny's help taking it apart.)

This is what it looked like before- it was sooo dirty and so old that the denim was almost white on the arms.
 A side shot...
Emme snuggling on her rug while I take pictures...
And Emme demonstrating just how wonderful her new chair really is.
The girls use it all the time and I can't wait to show you the rest of the room!
Thoughts about Emme-
She is soo cute and very smart. She loves to snuggle and read books. She can be kind of stubborn at times and doesn't always do what she is told, but mostly she is a dream. She is sweet and when you have her by yourself without anyone else bugging her, she is perfect. I asked her some of her favorite things today and her is what they are-
Food- marshmallows
Song- Wheels on the Bus
Color- purple
Friends- Hunter and Josh
Movie- Dora
Thing to do- watch Dora
Thing to play- Dora play-doh (which she doesn't have, but she does like play-doh a lot. )
She also loves to pretend and looves babies and dolls and her toy food and playing like she is the music leader in nursery, which is my calling. We love having our Emme and can't imagine our life without her!!
